Welcome to Downtown Vancouver's West End Neighbourhood
Explore this lively diverse community
Though predominantly residential, West End is one of the most active and thriving neighbourhoods in downtown Vancouver. It is bounded by water - English Bay to the south, Lost Lagoon to the west and English Bay to the north. It is not picturesque like its Coal Harbour neighbour, but this area certainly has a lot of character. It is known for its inclusive community, and is filled with chic fashion stores, bars, entertainment, and of course, lots of great restaurants and cafes. West End is very biker friendly, and you live within walking distance to everything. It has a walk score of 90 and a bike score of 84.
On Robson Street, you can find all the big brands such as Sephora, Foot Locker, Muji and Aritzia. All your shopping needs can be found here without having to drive anywhere. In the winter time, the city puts up Christmas decorations along the whole street as early as November so you can enjoy night walks amongst the twinkling lights.
If you are someone who doesn’t like to cook, this is the neighbourhood for you. The plethora of restaurants, cafes and eateries along Davie, Robson and Denman St means you will never have to cook another meal. The diversity here is second to none - you can find anything from Indian to Malaysian to Greek. What is unique is that most of them are independently owned small businesses, meaning they each have their own personality and story. It never gets boring!
West End is the ideal choice for those who like to be engaged in a fast-paced community. Besides all the food and shops, there are also many community gardens (Nelson Park, Burrard Green) and community centres (West End Community Centre, Barclay Manor) for people to mix and mingle. Amenities include, childcare, preschool classes, a youth centre, a photography dark room, pottery studio, auditorium, squash courts, indoor cycling rinks, indoor ice rinks, and fitness centre. There is never a dull moment and you will never have to worry about expensive cab rides after a night out ever again.
